AN ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE APPROACH TO DECLUTTERING

Many of So Sorted's clients ask us what happens to the clutter that we can’t sell or donate. We follow an environmentally-friendly approach to disposing of waste. Wherever possible, we recycle and re-use.

STORAGE CONTAINERS

We try to not purchase additional crates and storage containers, but rather use your existing stock. That extra Tupperware often comes in handy!

Handy tip: Use spare smaller Tupperware and plastic containers as drawer organisers, especially in those cases where lids have gone missing.

RECYCLING

Sorting of our clients’ refuse generally happens off-site. So although it all leaves our clients' premises in one bag, it gets sorted into different categories elsewhere. Where waste is removed by our transportation company, sorting happens at the rubbish dump, where waste is sorted into glass, paper, plastic and other recyclables. We also participate in the community recycling program and Pickitup’s waste recycling program in the suburb where our office is situated. The municipality collects our sorted recycling once a week, and a local recycler comes to collect e-waste from us. This includes cables, electronic goods and metal, which he either repurposes or strips down to sell the parts.

Handy tip: Many local rubbish dumps have separate bins for various recyclables and the employees there will assist you to separate, should you choose to take your recycling there yourself.

Handy tip:   Use your excess newspaper to wrap fragile items for your memorabilia box e.g. granny’s tea set or favourite ornament

There are many easy ways to recycle and re-use. Hopefully this gives you inspiration to follow your own steps to a more environmentally conscious lifestyle.
